Please read full description! I have listed the answer to most any question you might have about this vehicle here.
This is a 2016 Chevy Trax LT AWD with 174k miles on it. Long story short we bought this vehicle cheap for my teenage daughter under the impression all it needed was a new turbo. A completely different and rebuilt engine later and a ton of other new parts... here we are. We have sunk 3 times the money into this vehicle that we budgeted for her and now its time to move on, try and recuperate some of our losses and try again.
List of new parts include:
- known good running used motor from a vehicle that was wrecked. Before installing I disassembled it, planed the head, replaced the head gasket, timing cover gasket, timing chain & tensioner, water pump, thermostat & housing, VVT solenoids, spark plugs & coil, oil cooler assembly, intake manifold gasket, valve cover gasket, and all 3 turbo oil and coolant lines. I did inspect the turbo that came with the motor and did not see any cracks in the housing and the the turbine spun well with very little play. It was the factory Garrett turbo so I figured that to be better than using one of the aftermarket ones I saw were prone to issues.
- brand new battery
- brand new rear brake pads and rotors (front brakes were taken apart and cleaned & greased)
- coolant flushed twice to try and clean cooling system as best as possible
- new transmission fluid
- new transfer case fluid
- new exhaust flex pipe
- new windshield wiper blades
I'm sure that I'm forgetting some things but you get the point. I did as much as I could to try and fix what I saw was wrong and try to make this vehicle as dependable as possible. Also, this is not a "Craigslist Rebuild". I have pics of the entire process and a garage full of most of the old parts to prove it. Again, this was going to be for my teenage daughter so I didn't cut any corners.
The car runs and drives beautifully now. Goes down the road nice and smooth. Inside it has power windows, power locks with keyless entry, tilt, cruise, touchscreen radio with Bluetooth and satellite radio and everything works as it should. The only 2 issues that I know of that are left is the tire pressure light is on due to a bad TPMS sensor and the check engine light still intermittently comes on with a P0420 catalyst efficiency code. The catalytic converter did not appear blocked and doesn't rattle like the inside is damaged, but does look like an aftermarket unit. I did replace both oxygen sensors with aftermarket ones and it still comes on. Upon doing research I see that these cars can be picky with aftermarket catalytic converter and oxygen sensors so more than likely that's the cause. The car runs great at this point, so I am not dropping the money for an OE converter and o2 sensors just to clear the light. I just want to be honest so the next person that buys this knows everything.
The body looks presentable but does have some dings and dents as well as a couple little rust spots on the hatch above the license plate. I did touch up the rust spots with some paint to make it look a little better and slow down the rust. Other than that, the body is solid. The interior is decent and complete. If you wanted it to look better you could have the seats steam cleaned where they are light gray because they show some spots a little more.
All in all, the vehicle is decent but not perfect and the price reflects that. This is the cheapest AWD Trax that I found in a 300 mile radius. If you are looking for a good winter vehicle or first car...here you go.
Asking $4900. Has a clean Ohio title. No trades or lowballing. I don't need help selling. If the ad is up I still have it. If you don't have the cash, please don't waste your time or mine. Thanks for looking!
